As of Sept 2010, ORNL has re-arranged their site.
Note the new URL skips a step.

# go directly to the LBA DAAC Beija Flor search page
#* http://mercdev3.ornl.gov/lba/
# in the '''search box''' in the middle of the page,
#* enter (no quotes) '''melack basinwide mask'''
#* (and click "search")
# on the results page, it will show
#* '''LBA-ECO LC-07 BASINWIDE AMAZON WETLANDS 100M MASK BASED ON JERS SAR IMAGES (V.Apr08)''' inside a yellow bar.
#* Below that and to the right, in a grey box, click on '''"View full metadata"'''
# this page shows all the information about this wetland mask.
#* Keep a copy of that page.
# Scroll down to '''Download Data Sets''',
#* in the section "Download Data Sets" below the yellow "IMPORTANT" box.
#* Just below that box you see two '''URLs from which you can download the mask'''.
#* The same April 2008 version of the mask is at both of those URLs.
#* If you need technical assistance with the ftp or the browser downloads from those URLs, email gastil@lifesci.ucsb.edu.

157696 Aug 20 2007 Basinwide_wetmask_thumb.tif.doc
1708408 Feb 24 2004 Basinwide_wetmask_thumb.tif
136637 Jan 16 2009 Basinwide_wetmask_thumb_tiny.gif

The mask image is a GeoTIFF and MUST be downloaded together with its .tfw file
to retain its georeferencing.

The thumb.tif file is just a browse image and is of drastically reduced resolution
compared to the actual data image.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
15Jan2009 MGB updates:

(1)
The older version of the Basinwide wetmask has been stashed at
http://www.icess.ucsb.edu/LBA/products/amazon_basinwide/older_version/

(2)
The 25tplus version of the wetmask was stored here; that was a mistake
and has been removed from this dir. The 25tplus versions were never intended
for release.

(3)
LH's 11April2008 version of the Basinwide Wetmask has been copied to
this directory upon her recomendation. This version is an upgrade of the
August2004 version. This is geotiff. We are no longer offering a straight
raster array.

(4)
The browse tif filename has "thumb" added to emphasize its lower resolution.
An even smaller ...thumb_tiny.gif is offered for decorating the User_Guide.

(5)

1. go to http://www.lbaeco.org/lbaeco/data/data_lba.htm

2. in the search box in the middle of the page, enter (no quotes)
(and click "search")
3. on the search results page, it will show
"lba-eco lc-07 basinwide amazon wetlands 100m mask based on jers sar images (v.apr08)"

Below that and to the right, in a grey box, click on "View full metadata"

4. this page shows all the information about this wetland mask.
Keep a copy of that page. (If any of that information is not clear, please do not hesitate
to contact me.)

5. On this page is the link to the data, in the section "Download Data Sets" beside the yellow
"IMPORTANT" box. Just below that box you see two URLs from which you can download
the mask. The same April 2008 version of the mask is at both of those URLs.

If you need technical assistance with the ftp or the browser downloads from those URLs, email me.

6. Also please see the "Data Set User's Guide" just below the data download link. Again, if
